The covid-19 pandemic sent many people into the forest for recreation and solace. Playgrounds were closed. Playfields were off limits. Basketball hoops were removed. Walking and bicycling were among the activities that were allowed, and folks found hills inviting. The result was a proliferation of trails where none had existed. Several Arlington parks felt this impact. The following maps illustrate the point. The map on the left is from Google Maps and shows fewer trails than actually existed before the pandemic. The map on the right has red lines showing new trails and was made by walking the trails with a handheld mapping device. There is some backtracking, but the overall impact of trail creation is represented.

Slopes are an attraction at Brandymore Castle, as this contour map shows.
